What I’m Doing This Year to Heal My Hormones (High FSH and Premature Ovarian Insufficiency)

So it’s a brand new year. A clean slate. A fresh runway to chase your dreams and soar. If you’ve landed here on this blog post, you’re probably hoping that this year will be one of healing for your hormones, fertility, and more. Living without a period is a scary place to be—I understand completely! In fact, I’m still there.

Current goals for hormone healing and fertility

What are your wellness goals for this year? What big questions surrounding your hormones and health will you pursue answers for? What positive, lasting changes do you want to see?

Here’s a transparent look at what I’m hoping to heal and uncover for my own tricky case of “premature ovarian insufficiency or failure” (or to put it more accurately, “high follicle-stimulating hormone”).

Important side-note: if you’re also dealing with POI or mysteriously high FSH, your ovaries are likely just hibernating; please don’t worry about whether or not you still have eggs because the body does not simply flush them away.

So, right here, right now, take a few calming deep breaths to alleviate some of those heavy worries. Don’t listen to the search engine results on this one, trust me.

MAIN FERTILITY GOALS:

  • to completely eliminate my hot flashes within 3 months

  • to learn WHY my FSH is high

  • to lower my FSH to a normal range within 6 months

  • to get my period back within 6 months

  • to become pregnant (acknowledging God’s timing here)

Writing that last goal is scary—especially to put it out into the world in a blog post, but I’m going for it! I’m taking back the reins of my health and my life! At the same time, there’s a huge element of surrender in this goal, too, because I know that God is sovereign over my life. But I also know that God designed me to have a healthy body. So basically, I’m finding the balance between “letting go” and surrendering to Him all while doing everything I can to restore my body to how He created it to work. Trusting God with the rest!

So those are my main goals. In order to make those goals happen, there are a bunch of small steps I’ll be working on each day to support my fertility. I’ll share those in my next blog post.

What I’m doing in 2024 to heal my hormones

I’m sure I won’t be perfect about doing all of these things, but this is my current list of things to try. It definitely feels like a lot, but I’m hoping to land on something that shifts some gears back into place.

ACTION STEPS FOR Q1 OF THIS YEAR

My fertility action steps for the first quarter of this year include…

  • continue to eat at least 2,500 calories a day

  • cook more meals

  • increase protein even more

  • reduce processed sugar by a lot

  • add more veggies to my day, including raw ones

  • drink 1/2 cup of cranberry juice throughout the day

  • drinking my daily water goal

  • stay consistent with my supplements and electrolytes

  • fertility massage throughout the week

  • castor oil packs

  • start stretching daily

  • 30-minute walk every morning with light jogging to stimulate lymphatic system

  • spend time outside by the ocean and barefoot on the ground

  • spend at least 2 hours on things that bring me joy each day

  • read, research, journal

  • spend more time reading my Bible

  • stay motivated and encouraged

  • and a few other things that I’ll write about soon

Main goals for optimum hormone healing during the next 90 days

Since I have SO many things on my fertility to-do list, I also want to create a smaller, more focused checklist of the most important tasks. When I’m trying a bunch of different things, it’s easy to miss a few here and there if I get distracted or overwhelmed. So I’m choosing a select few to focus on daily. These are the goals I think are most important for me to reverse my high FSH and wake up my sleepy ovaries.

A sweet friend who is also working through similar fertility issues reminded me last week that it can take 3 consistent months to see improvement from a supplement, and that it takes 21 days to form a new habit, so I’m setting a few specific sprint goals with items to check off every single day. These will be my priorities for the next 90 days.

KEY 90-DAY SPRINT GOALS

  • 90 days of high-protein meals

  • 90 days without missing a supplement

  • 90 days of zero constipation (thanks to a few key supplements)

  • 90 days of grounding outside (standing outside barefoot to ground my body to the earth)

  • 90 days of stretching / simple mat exercises

  • 3 months of fertility massage / castor oil packs routine (might not be every single day)

  • 90 days of daily Bible reading and journaling time

There are a hundred little things I’m incorporating into my fertility restoration plan, but if I commit to doing these tasks without skipping any days, I know I’ll stay on the right track and make progress towards major hormone healing.

Of course, if I miss a day, it’s not the end of the world, but it creates a fun challenge around eating the best foods for my body, taking all of my supplements, keeping my detox pathways moving, grounding, stretching, and reading my Bible every day. I’m also creating a castor oil pack and fertility massage routine to do throughout the week. I know these will be key to reestablishing my hormone connections.

I have a few more tests that I’m waiting for, so I’m sure I’ll have several more things to add to my goal lists later this month.

I plan to talk about what I’ve healed so far in another blog post soon.
